Hello there...
My name is Michael Bratland but many call me Miko. I am a graphic artist based in Brooklyn and I have been working in the New York graphics industry in one form or another since 1995. The majority of my current work comes from designing album art for bands. I also create websites, design flyers & posters, brand movies and products and consult other artists on projects big and small. For online projects, I have the pleasure of working closely with some of the industry's top programmers here in the city. While I focus on the design elements which bring a web campaign to life, I am surrounded by the people with the skills to make everything integrate seamlessly. I manage projects from the ground up, bringing the right tools and staff together to deliver exciting work on schedule.
Who's the Boss?
After years of working under the roofs of others, I am finally operating by my own rules. My previous related work experience includes designing and coding for GLUON Inc., a great company which creates extensions exclusively for Quark Xpress, Engine Room Audio, a CD production house in Lower Manhattan where I was Director of Operations for a number of years, and most recently Design Station where I was lead graphic artist since 2005.
Skills
My first home computer was an Apple IIe and that is where my passion for computer design began. Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Quark Xpress are all programs I use skillfully. I don't like to use the word "master" because a program always offers something new to learn. A different way of seeing something that you have been looking at every day is one reason why I am so interested in this art form.
Clients
I have done work for countless companies and artists but, to name drop a few I would go with M•A•C Cosmetics, HBO, U2, Kill Rockstars, Ultra Records, The Harlem Boys Club, Brazilian Beat Brooklyn, Sullivan Room NYC, and most recently, music licensor LoveCat Music. Of course projects with "proper" budgets are always preferred for many reasons, but I also find a certain satisfaction in helping realize the visions of "the independents" as well. :)
